We embarked on making a series of short films featuring a flotilla of bamboo boats made by Claire Beynon in New Zealand for the 2008 research season in Antarctica. The boats were released into the ocean eighty feet below the sea ice of Explorers Cove and filmed as they made their dreamlike voyage upwards to the ice ceiling. We gathered extensive underwater footage of this drifting flotilla before retrieving them for future projects.
